Terry Karkos/Sun Journal A tire track across a lawn and the stump of a shattered utility pole at 206 Lincoln Ave. in Rumford remained as evidence of an early Friday morning crash. Police arrested Charles Beardsley, 29, of Rumford at 2:06 a.m. on Knox Street on charges of operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and failing to report a property damage crash by quickest means possible. Beardsley was not hurt and released on $800 unsecured bail and will be arraigned Sept. 3 in 11th District Court. Rumford administrative officer Matthew Desroches said Friday afternoon that Beardsley was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup truck when he struck the utility pole. Desroches drove off and was later found on Knox Street, he said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPHKj5bqHl0

COPS planting drugs

Zachary Wester

Lora Penn, one of nine plaintiffs, says she was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over June 7, 2018. During the stop, she alleged, Wester placed methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle in her purse. Penn was charged with drug and paraphernalia possession and spent 12 days in jail before "her mother posted bond exhausting her meager financial resources. Penn's mother was thereafter unable to afford medical care and died due to lack of such care," https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/11/us/florida-deputy-arrested-planting-drugs-charges/index.html

Taco belle aint Mexican

Wed 26 Jun 2019 05:17:49 AM EDT I hear a lot from some people about cultural influences and how they feel that 'American' culture is being diluted by foreign influences. A favorite gripe is store signs in #Spanish. This complaint exemplifies the backward thinking I see constantly. A store sign in Spanish is getting foreigners to act like Americans, buy Pepsi , use Charmin, drive a #Ford Automobile. These are ALL #AMERICAN PRODUCTS inserting themselves into Spanish culture. But the emotional response we see would be more appropriate if the signs told #Americans to buy Spanish products. America , us, me and you have corrupted more cultures tan I can easily name, while we whine about foreign influences! Did Ho Chi Min dream of all #Vietnamese eating Whoppers, carrying an #Amex card and listening to Hip Hop? I don't think so. Be honest with yourself #AMERICAN PRODUCTS ARE EVERYWHERE AND THEY GET FOREIGNERS TO ACT LIKE AMERICANS. Some older #foreigners do not relish seeing their children adopt western habits. And we Americans still complain about foreign influences.......

I won't be the victim so you can't be the Hero

Some folks talk about returning to the good old days as if it would make them someone different whether or not that is accurate I see the issues as being able to decide with more certainty WHO you wanted to be. When there was one ideal there was little problem in imagining yourself the hero. The hero was a straight white male of middle age. There are a lot more heroes in today's world than there were in the 1940's and the 1950's. Many of today's heroes look and sound very different than yesterdays heroes did. In stories where there is a hero there is also a victim to be saved. The victims role is as highly defined as the heroes. A key factor in being a victim is powerlessness. Powerful people do not need to be saved. Women are often cast as the victim. I use the word cast intentionally to imply a role created by others to enable a dramatic performance. The man who is willing to 'save' the women after a rape by marrying her. The same person who victimizes , '(EXIT STAGE LEFT)' recasts himself as the HERO and dashes back on stage. How much so called heroism is a manufactured circumstance to put a band-aid over bad behavior? As the people who traditionally played the victim grow more powerful the role of the existing hero becomes less heroic and more comedic. The hero rushes into save someone and there is no danger I see this as causing some people a great deal of anxiety.
